A proximidade da Copa do Mundo aqueceu o mercado editorial. Livros sobre estatísticas, verdadeiras enciclopédias e outros de grande força analítica foram lançados. Veja algumas das publicações deste primeiro semestre e que têm relação com o torneio na África do Sul, que será disputado entre 11 de junho e 11 de julho.

A obra de Luiz Fernando Baggio, publicada pela Editora NovaTerra, conta casos e curiosidades envolvendo atletas e seleções. A edição é composta por estatísticas e oferece históricos completos da participação das seleções campeãs mundiais em todos os Mundiais, além de histórias de bastidores e da vida política dentro das Copas. O livro, dividido em 35 capítulos e 615 páginas, traz também um guia da Copa de 2010, na África do Sul, com a tabela dos jogos e dicas de turismo.

O livro escrito por Lycio Vellozo Ribas, publicado pela Editora Lua de Papel, é um registro completo da história da Copa do Mundo. As 585 páginas contêm fatos e fotos históricas e dados de todas as partidas da competição, inclusive com fichas técnicas, e explica como foram as eliminatórias. O livro de Paulo Vinícius Coelho, lançado pela Panda Books, é uma edição ampliada e atualizada. A primeira delas reuniu os 50 maiores jogos de Mundiais. Comentarista da ESPN Brasil, PVC conta as partidas, sem necessariamente se limitar à importância delas. A número 1, segundo o autor, é a vitória da Itália sobre a Alemanha por 4 a 3 na semifinal da Copa de 1970. A derrota do Brasil para a Itália em 1982, na “Tragédia do Sarriá”, também está na conta, assim como a goleada da Argentina sobre o Peru por 6 a 0, que eliminou o Brasil do Mundial de 1978.

O livro do jornalista Milton Leite, lançado pela Editora Contexto, é dividido em seis capítulos, um para cada seleção. A escolha pode ser polêmica, mas faz sentido pelos resultados obtidos ou pela maneira que encantou o mundo. A relação é composta pelas cinco equipes campeãs mundiais, começando pela de 1958, na Suécia, passando pela de 1962, de 1970, de 1994 e terminando na de 2002, no Japão e na Coreia do Sul. O sexto time não chegou sequer às semifinais, mas foi considerado um dos melhores de todos os tempos. É a seleção brasileira de 1982, eliminada pela Itália na segunda fase na chamada “Tragédia de Sarriá”.

São sete as seleções escolhidas pelo jornalista Mauro Beting, que conta todas as peculidaridades das equipes no lançamento da Editora Contexto. O trabalho de Paulo Gini e Rodolfo Rodrigues, lançado pela Panda Books, exigiu grande pesquisa. O objetivo do livro foi mostrar os uniformes de todas as seleções que entraram em campo em Copas do Mundo. Desde as grandes campeãs até as que não tiveram expressão. No site , é possível fazer uma simulação dos uniformes das seleções que chegaram às finais de Mundiais.

When the Founding Fathers declared that ALL inhabitants of our country need to be counted in the census, I believe it was their assumption that everyone coming here to live, came legally and became a citizen. Therefore, each citizen deserved the right to be represented and treated accordingly. To apply this Constitutional mandate to illegal immigrants is wrong these lawbreakers should not have the same rights assured to the legal citizens of the United States. (I think this interpretation encourages cities and states to look the other way instead of enforcing the laws against illegal immigration that way they have more “inhabitants” to count and get more government money and another representative in Congress!)
Can I ask why the phone lines are automated until April 12? US Census Day is today. I work with the local Chamber of Commerce and we are a supposed to be a US Census Partner. But I haven’t even received my own Census form. I understand the replacement form concept, but for those of us who have not received an initial form, I highly doubt we will be receiving the replacement form. I have been promoting to others in our community to complete their form, but I do not know how to answer their questions when they ask how can they get their initial form? I tried to use the web page to locate our assistance center and all it shows is a bubble in the middle of the river, no contact name, address or phone number. We are a county seat community – City Hall, the chamber nor the library knows where to find forms or how to help our constituents. I just want to talk to a real person when I call the U.S. Census Bureau- and I don’t want to wait 2 weeks to do it.
