Irritado com as fortes críticas que a seleção recebeu desde a eliminação precoce na Copa das Confederações, o zagueiro Fabio Cannavaro colocou a sua vaga à disposição nesta terça-feira. Apesar dos pedidos de renovação, o técnico Marcello Lippi tem mantido a base que foi campeã do mundo há três anos na Alemanha. “Chega dessa história de velhos, já se tornou uma moda. Se eu realmente incomodo, o meu lugar está à disposição, mas Lippi é quem decide. Eu não estou aqui só porque levantei o troféu da Copa do Mundo”, desabafou o jogador de 35 anos, eleito o melhor do mundo pela Fifa em 2006. Para Cannavaro, que recentemente trocou o Real Madrid pela Juventus, tirar os jogadores mais velhos não resolverá os problemas da Azzurra. “Precisamos de reconstrução e não apenas na seleção. Comecemos com a infraestrutura, os estádios, mas também com os times juvenis”, sugeriu. O zagueiro ainda saiu em defesa do técnico da seleção. “Assim como Lippi, acho que os jogadores que estão aqui são os melhores do futebol italiano no momento”, concluiu, no desembarque do grupo italiano em Roma após a eliminação na África do Sul. A campanha do selecionado europeu na Copa das Confederações foi decepcionante: depois de suar para bater os Estados Unidos por 3 a 1 de virada, Cannavaro, Buffon, Luca Toni e companhia perderam por 1 a 0 do Egito e se despediram da competição ao levar de 3 a 0 do Brasil no último domingo.
